Last night was First Thursdays, a big event in Cape Town that takes place on the night of the first Thursday of each month. It's basically just a big party in the area of Long and Bree Streets in downtown Cape Town. Wills, Thomas, Brian (a session 2 kid from Kenya I met last week), and I had dinner on Long Street at a restaurant called Tiger's Milk (who's slogan is "Dude Food Made Real Good"). It was packed, but we were able to get a row of 4 seats at the bar, and I ordered a big, delicious plate of ribs and a Black Label beer and was happy.Image result for tiger's milk cape town

After dinner we made our way to the art galleries on Church Street. As a part of First Thursdays, the art galleries stay open late for free, and some even give out free wine (but we were too late for the alcohol). We walked through a few of the galleries and saw a couple pieces on interesting art, and then moved up a block or two to the bars where we met up with some other iX students.

We bar-hopped in the area for the next couple of hours, just taking in the whole scene. It's a great atmosphere with people hanging outside the bars, dancing to the music, and drinking, and the weather was perfect last night. We eventually made our way to the infamous Gin Bar I have heard so much about but hadn't actually frequented until last night. There is a chocolate shop at the entrance, and Zach and I split a delicious hot chocolate, and then moved to the back and upstairs to the gin. I worked my way through the crowd to the bar and ordered 2 Pineapple Spiced G&Ts, we grabbed a seat, and chatted as we drank.

My stomach has been kind of upset here, probably from the tap water, so I decided to call it a night after Gin Bar at around 11 and head back to Camps Bay. That was probably a good call, since I found out today that Zach had a gun branded at him when walking to McDonalds on Long Street later on in the night. He is totally fine (even if he didn't remember it this morning), but it's still a scary situation that I'm glad I avoided.

Anyway, to end on a positive note, my second First Thursday in Cape Town was a ton of fun and I'm glad I went!
